Since I'm not in school this year, I've been reading like a madwoman. Joining a local book club has increased the variety of genres I'm dabbling in. Here's what I've read this month:

This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color by Cherrie Moraga and Gloria Anzaldua

Emotional Alchemy by Tara Bennett-Goleman

Wicked by Gregory Maguire

A Gentle Madness by Nicholas Basbanes

Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison

Lathe of Heaven by Ursula LeGuin

Ancient Mirrors of Womanhood by Merlin Stone

Forgiveness by Sidney and Suzanne Simon

Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

The Church and the Second Sex by Mary Daly

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

All very delicious!

Am nearly finished with _Married: A Fine Predicament_ by Anne Roiphe -- rather brilliant (and well-written) riff on modern marriage, from the perspective of a woman who was married, had chile, divorced, remarried to man with kids from first marriage ... OK, my wors are sounding more like a sportscast than a review, and aren't doing justice to her words :-) so I'll stop now! Check out the sample pages on amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/reader/...reader-page

Really enjoyed _Da Vinci Code_ -- anyone else read his _Angels & Demons_ (I recommend it)

And if you haven't read _The Red Tent_, do so.

I know it's an old post, but shoot, it's a good ice breaker and I'm new to tribe!

My active shelf (read: pile) has in it:

Magical Thinking and Possible Side Effects by Augusten Burroughs
Gods and Monsters by Christopher Bram
Plagues and Peoples by William H. Macneill
    Buried Alive by Jan Bondeson
and Fun Home by Allison Bechdel

I suppose eclecticism is the order of the day ;) Anyone still posting/reading/thinkning about reading with that twinge of guilt we all get for not reading enough?
